Unobstructed Heart's Desire

Question 5:    In the normal course of things how much freedom to change to a new probability do I have?

Mataji/John's response:  When I look at the process of creating our reality, I see a definite structure to the process that encourages, supports and sometimes demands that we face and engage life. It seems that the primary way we enter probabilities is through a set of 6 streams or bundles of probabilities in front of the heart chakra. These six streams of probabilities contain all the probabilities accessible to you within the framework of your society, given your life and reincarnational history.

Each of the six streams contains probabilities that may differ in the amount of pleasure you would experience in that probability, and so they may seem very different. But all the probabilities in a single stream flow from the same bundle or stream of karmic connections. The skill with which you engage your life and experience determines which of the probabilities you enter. Still, as long as you stay within a single stream, you do live under the force of karma. The broad outlines of your life will be fixed for decades at a time, and at times your options within those broad outlines may be very limited. Until very recently, most people on earth lived most of their life all within a single stream of probabilities.

Shifting to another of the six streams in front of the heart chakra can be done if and only if you can match the energy of the karma of that stream. You can do that by engaging the issues in your first 3 chakras. You ground into life through the first chakra, experience and express your desires through the second chakra, and give form to that desire and collaborate with others in its expression through the third chakra. When you can do this reasonably well, your grounded, well formed desires move up into the heart chakra, where their clarity and coordination becomes an unobstructed heart's desire. When you have cleared and coordinated the three lower chakras relatively well, you can shift probability streams.

The clearing and coordinating of the lower three chakras is essentially a psychological process. By learning the psychological lessons that are now widely available, you can clear and coordinate the lower three chakras and gain access to all six streams. Some of these psychological lessons are learning how to listen and to assert your self skillfully, learning to forgive, owning and respecting boundaries, and letting go of shoulds, oughts and have to's.

These lessons can also be learned by becoming very psychic or by engaging deeply in spiritual practices, though I find that people get them best through a combination of studying the psychological wisdom now available and by psychic or spiritual practice. Many extremely psychic people or spiritually oriented people avoid their lower chakras. Many of them have a very hard time with physical life. Some few people achieve great freedom without engaging their lower chakras, they just do so outside of the framework of their society.

Even people who have cleared and coordinated the lower three chakras are still subject to karma. They are much better off because they choose the karma (almost always unconsciously). They chose the karma within a range that is consistent with their underlying personality and society. Often great spiritual teachers chose to stay within their six streams, when they could make different choices for themselves. Sri Aurobindo was an example. Those teachers choose to stay within the bounds of their society to engage and minister to it. Within the six streams, most, if not all people have the power, if their choices are skillful, to steadily extricate themselves from even the grimmest of circumstances; and to build a good life for themselves, though depending on the range of karma available, it may take ten to fifteen years to complete the transformation.

An example might be Robert Stroud, the "Bird Man of Alcatraz," a criminal who was sentenced to life in prison, and whose life was made into a famous movie. He was in solitary confinement. He fell in love with studying and caring for birds, and became an internationally recognized expert. He became content with his life, he found happiness and meaning. He did not fly out of his jail, become a multimillionaire, or any of the other things which weren't available in that time and society for him. It was extraordinary at that time and in that society for a convict to become an international bird expert, but it was still in the range of skillful choices. Were that to happen today, he might be released from jail. If my memory of the movie is correct, at that time, he got accolades, but no release.

Of course in individual cases, rapid change can occur. It can occur because the situation is not as rigid as the Bird Man of Alcatraz's situation, or because somewhere in the six streams good karma is present. It can also change rapidly if the person can move outside the six streams. That option has always been available, though it usually required mediation of someone whose energy could move outside the group's energy, such as Christ or a guru. Increasingly, with the coming of Seth and other movements towards the New Age, it has been possible for more ordinary individuals to make a leap out of their group karma.

Here is where a catch emerges. In the past, people who were sufficiently integrated and clear in the lower three chakras, such as, say the Dalai Lama, who had the power to choose to step out of their social context for their own personal gain, were usually more concerned with helping others. They voluntarily stayed to help others because they had faced their fears, their shame, or whatever might make transcendence seem so inviting. They had found meaning and love in engaging life as it was, and they did so.

However, the nature of the human dance is changing, and as enough of us learn reasonably well the psychological lessons necessary to clear and coordinate the lower three chakras; other streams become available outside the six. To stay engaged still requires that we continue to clear and coordinate our lower chakras, continue to improve our life and people skills, and while we do so, we can begin to learn to step outside the six streams. I have been told by my guides that the next range for humans is the old six streams and thirty-three more, for a total of thirty-nine streams. Various skills such as creative intelligence or clairvoyance will each give us access to a few of the thirty-three new streams. As I learn more about these new streams, I will write more about them.

Robert Stroud pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 1909, expecting to get three years in prison for killing the man who had assaulted his girlfriend, but a tough judge sentenced him to 12 years. While serving that sentence, he killed a prison guard in full sight of a cafeteria lunch crowd and was sentenced to death. His mother, a lifelong advocate for her son until he married a woman with whom he began a bird business while in prison, traveled to Washington and persuaded President Woodrow Wilson to have the sentence commuted to life in prison. A tough warden translated that to mean solitary confinement for life.

There, with only a third-grade education and nothing but time on his hands, Stroud became the world's utmost authority on birds and their diseases. Experts and pet owners turned to Stroud for solutions to their avian problems. He wrote books, published groundbreaking articles in medical journals and answered questions from people seeking information about their sick birds (when he was allowed to). He drummed up publicity whenever he thought it would help his cause, which was to keep his birds and continue his writings.
