Mataji Channeling on September 11, 2001

Dear Folks,
A lot of people have asked for Mataji's take on this. Both because Mataji has been busy, and because I wanted to have some perspective before we commented, I have delayed getting the material. We will be talking next Thursday (in Ann Arbor), and more info should be available.

Still, we have some preliminary observations. The most important is how much a channel's ideology affects their information. No matter how clear the channel is, or how deep the channel's trance is, the beliefs of the channel held in the body and aura color the information. Again, ideally, this collaboration is explicitly recognized and utilized creatively. The information and skills of the channel her/himself can be an integral part of the channeling relationship and of the information observed and communicated.

This is why the numerous channelings on the terrorism can each contain useful information, outright nonsense, and what is more difficult to calibrate, more subtle ideological biases of both the channel and the being channeled. With those limitations in mind, here are some preliminary observations of my channeled spirit, Mataji.

Last spring Mataji said that there would be more political changes by June of 2003 than there were from 1989 to 93, a time period which included the fall of the Berlin wall and the Soviet Empire. When we (Mataji/John) look at the people who died in New York, we see the largest percentage of them as volunteers -- that is to say, it wasn't any karmic necessity that they be involved, just a deep unconscious project for global transformation. It doesn't even appear to be US karma, just that we had the volunteers and money to withstand these horrors (though of course we can each still learn to release many of our faults and gain compassion in connection with the issues involved). The transformation seems particularly concerned with the liberation of women and of the divine female, and that transformation most deeply requires change in what may be called third world countries. I realize this is a very ideological take (and of course we are each of us, as individuals and as members of our groups and as members of the whole human race, "responsible" for and engaged in the belief structures of the whole world).

It doesn't look to us that the price in human misery for the coming transformation in global politics will be either trivial or anything like the horrors others expect. Nothing nearly so bad as, for example, what happened in Rwanda a few years ago. Naturally, we do have a part to play in this through our cultivation of compassion both globally and in our daily lives. I personally have felt constantly the pain of the victims of the terrorism for several days, and this morning Friday, September 14, awoke feeling the pain of the Afghan people, who after all have suffered by the millions for more than 20 years, and who now face more devastation.

Still, and this is a place I try to be conscious of my own ideological biases, a large part of their pain seems to be connected with an inner hope that the alienation of their leaders and oppression of women can somehow be released in the coming conflicts. Even they, it seems, want something done both to stop the terrorism and to release them from their own oppressions.
